* Truckers say they'll lose tens of millions of dollars
Victoria,BC,Canada -The Times Colonist (Hamilton,Ontario,Canada), by Carla Wilson -February 20, 2008: -- B.C.'s commercial truckers say new fuel taxes announced in yesterday's provincial budget will cost their industry tens of millions of dollars -- and possibly hundreds of millions -- over the next five years... Operating a long-haul truck will cost about $1,000 more this year alone, said Paul Landry, president of the B.C. Trucking Association... That's because although B.C.'s new carbon tax is supposed to be revenue neutral -- monies raised will be returned to businesses and citizens as lower taxes -- truckers say they'll share most of the burden, noting they don't have the option to scale back their driving... "For our industry, it is not revenue neutral," Landry said...
