New Hampshire,USA -The Boston Globe (Boston,MASS), by Hiawatha Bray -December 17, 2007: -- ... developed a new onboard computer for large trucks that could have prevented the rollover accident that devastated an Everett neighborhood this month... Heimer Sverrisson, chief architect of Cadec Global LLC in Manchester, said his company's PowerVue computer will go on sale in the first quarter of 2008 for $2,450, and can be installed in old trucks as well as new ones... Other rollover protection systems use an array of truck-mounted sensors to measure speed and side-to-side movement. PowerVue, however, uses a stream of data from Global Positioning System satellites to determine whether a truck is traveling too fast to turn safely...
* Bill addresses tanker trucks in rotaries - Communities could seek a ban
Boston,Mass,USA -The Boston Globe, by Kay Lazar -December 18, 2007: -- Communities could ban tanker trucks from local traffic rotaries under legislation slated to be unveiled today in Everett, where a speeding tanker overturned in a rotary this month and ignited an inferno that torched two buildings, melted 21 cars, and left about a dozen families homeless... Senator Anthony Galluccio, a Democrat who represents Everett, said his proposal is aimed at giving cities and towns more control over roadways that pass through congested neighborhoods... The tanker that rolled over in Everett spilled 9,400 gallons of gasoline, which caught fire and forced the evacuation of at least 145 people from nearby homes, including an elderly housing complex...
