SAFETY * Europe - TIR trucks, buses to have anti-crack systems

Tour buses, trucks will be manufactured with additional security systems after 2010, UN member states have agreed in Geneva, the European Commission informs

Brussels,Belgium -Focus News/24 Chasa (Sofia,Bulgaria) -18 November 2007: -- ... The vehicles will have an electronic security system (ESC) planted, which will allow drivers to keep control of the vehicle in critical situations caused by road cracks or loss of control. The system reduces the power of the engine or triggers the brakes of one or some of the wheels by recovering the vehicle’s stability... It will help save 500 human lives annually and avoid 2,500 heavy crashes... The EU plans to make the ESC planting mandatory in all newly-manufactured motor vehicles in a few stages... The first stage will concern TIRs and tour buses... "These systems have a great potential for the saving of a human life, especially in heavy motor vehicles, where crash consequences might be dreadful", EU Commissioner for Industry Gunter Verheugen commented...
