High Diesel Prices * USA - Trickle Down to Consumer

"$300.15 for 82.003 gallons," said trucker Jeff Robbins. That's life now for him and other long haul truckers
Boise,ID,USA -KBCI CBS 2, by Michelle DeGrand -8 Nov 2007: -- Robbins is on his way to Washington with a load of flour, but he says with the price of diesel, many truckers are making a lot less dough... Just at the pumps in Idaho, diesel costs are at record highs and they're the third highest in the country... "I see the situation definitely getting worse before it gets better," said Robbins... Other truckers breaking at the Flying J truck stop in Boise agree. Kevin Kruger says where the market is heading is largely based on speculation right now, but the prices are going up, and fast. He's on his way to North Carolina, and after seeing the prices here, passed on the pump... Industry watchers say Idaho is likely seeing higher prices because the local market is low on supply... "Somebody has to pay for that and it isn't the trucking companies and it isn't the company shipping, it's the consumers," he said...

* Gas Prices Could Force Truckers to a Stop - High diesel gas prices are hitting truck drivers hard

So far this year, truck drivers and trucking companies have spent $6.6 billion more on gas than last year. That's not because they are filling up more, but because they are paying more than ever... Truckers say that cost could cost drivers their livelihood... A trucker for more than 20 years, Joe Allemand now wonders if his highway driving days will soon be brought to a stop... "I just figured out on my check and the fuel was higher than what I made," explained Allemand... Allemand is like many independent truck drivers, paying for his own gas, but not making any more money per load...
