* J.B. Hunt May Burn Short Sellers on Rail-Led Rebound
New York,NY,USA -Bloomberg, by Angela Greiling Keane & Gopal Ratnam -Oct. 12, 2007: -- Short sellers who are raising their bets against J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. may become a lot poorer when they find out the third-biggest U.S. trucking company is emerging from a freight industry slump with enhanced earnings prospects. The shares, down from a peak in July, may rise 14 percent over the next year... As falling freight volumes and an 18 percent rise in fuel prices drag down truckers including larger YRC Worldwide Inc., J.B. Hunt has outperformed competitors thanks to its long-term partnership with railroads. The company's strategy of shipping goods by a combination of road and rail, known as "intermodal'' transport, is shielding it from higher oil prices as it takes advantage of trains' greater fuel efficiency. That helped profit in the intermodal segment rise 32 percent in the third quarter as J.B. Hunt's overall profit fell 12 percent. .. (Photo by Michael Fein/Bloomberg News - A J.B.
