Relics of Yesteryear * New Zealand - Elderly trucks head south
They’re old, cold, slow moving, but well loved... And that’s not the drivers, it’s the four-wheeled members of a convoy of elderly trucks...
Ashburton,New Zealand -The Ashburton Guardian, by Sue Newman -October 19, 2007: -- ... elderly trucks that headed south this morning, bound for Invercargill and the opening of a new wing of a truck museum... Old trucks might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but to those who love them, there’s nothing finer than to see the relics of yesteryear spruced up and looking every bit as good as the day they rolled off the production line... Fords, Dodges, Internationals, they were all represented yesterday when the convoy began forming at the Ashburton Saleyards... Progess south will be slow – a stately 45 miles per hour, and it will be cold – no heaters on board... By the time the convoy reaches Invercargill it is anticipated to be at least 100 vehicles long, Hundreds of kilometres traveled, winter chill braved, all in the name of recognising trucking industry legend the late Bill Richardson and his museum...
