Medical Certificates * USA - Two-thirds of state DOT drivers lack

State officials acknowledge that about two-thirds of the Department of Transportation's truck drivers lack medical certificates required for licensing

Newington,Con,USA -News Day/WTNH-TV -October 19, 2007: -- ... Only about 300 of the agency's approximately 900 truck drivers, who operate dump trucks, snow plows and other vehicles, have the certificates. A spokesman for the Transportation Department says officials previously believed the state workers were exempt from the requirement, which also applies to commercial truckers... The Department of Motor Vehicles told the Transportation Department in May to make sure all of their truckers get the certificates... Governor Rell says a law that took effect this month makes the medical certificates mandatory for those drivers, so there should be no ambiguity and no more delays in compliance...
