* USA - Sector Glance: Trucking Stocks Fall
New York,NY,USA -The Associated Press -Sept. 12, 2007: -- Trucking stocks traded mostly lower Wednesday, as investors responded to a recent conference report that suggested the freight market won't pick up in the near-term... In a note to clients, Wachovia Capital Markets analyst Justin B. Yagerman said it became evident at a recent transportation and packaging conference that the freight market is being dragged down by a number of factors including an oversupply of tractors, weak demand for housing and housing-related shipments, and an overall slowing economy... Despite some "pockets of strength," the analyst noted that the market has generally remained in a slump throughout the third quarter, and "competition has remained fierce for truckload and less-than truckload as carriers are seeking to increase density in the current softer freight environment"... However, companies did express optimism that the demand could pick up in the second half of 2008, Yagerman said, as capacity should tighten at that time... Here is how some key trucking stocks did Friday:
* Arkansas Best Corp., down 49 cents to $33.20.
* Con-way Inc., down 11 cents to $47.37.
* YRC Worldwide Inc., down 78 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $27.14.
* Werner Enterprises Inc., down 15 cents to $18.06.
* J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc., down 32 cents to $27.07.
* Knight Transportation Inc., down 29 cents to $17.28.
