Parking Problems * USA - San Juan truckers frustrated with a city ordinance
The next morning a city code enforcement officer was at his home, telling him that he had broken the law
San Juan,TX,USA -The Monitor (McAllen,TX), by Ryan Holeywell -July 2, 2007: -- After spending months on the road last year, San Juan resident George Alvarado did what he does after every trip: He came home and parked his tractor-trailer on the land he owns next to his home... The next morning — before Alvarado even had a chance to kiss his wife — a city code enforcement officer was at his home, telling him that he had broken the law ... Alvarado’s story is like that of many San Juan truckers, who say they have grown frustrated with a five-year-old city ordinance that prohibits people from parking oversized commercial vehicles on city streets and in residential areas — even if it’s on their private property... Some truckers, like Alvarado, park their trucks on their own private residential property, but that’s illegal, too, leaving some San Juan truckers with few options. “I don’t know what to do,” Alvarado says. “I can’t get out of trucking. It’s my living”...
