* Oregon Legislature OKs bill to clean up diesel engines

OR,USA -Land Line Magazine, by Keith Goble -July 6, 2007: -- The Oregon Legislature approved a bill intended to clean up old diesel engines in the state... Trucks, buses, construction equipment and farm vehicles would get help from the state to replace and retrofit pre-2007 diesel engines and reduce idling... The bill – HB2172 – would provide state grants, loans and tax breaks to update engines so they emit less pollution...


* New Jersey bills tackle loading delays at ports, road safety

USA -Land Line Magazine, by Keith Goble -July 6, 2007: -- A couple of bills in the New Jersey statehouse are intended to improve port operations and safety on roadways... Truckers forced to wait in line at ports to load or unload are the subject of a bill S2217, that would prohibit ports from making a truck wait longer than 30 minutes before beginning loading or off-loading container cargo at a terminal... Another measure it would require terminals to ensure containers are not overweight or improperly loaded... Under S2216, an ocean marine terminal found to be violating the order would face $500 in fines, per occurrence...

* New Maine law bans teens from cell phones while driving

John Baldacci signed a bill into law banning the state’s youngest drivers from chatting on the phone while they are behind the wheel... The new law, prohibits drivers younger than age 18 from using any cell phone, hand-held or “hands free,” or any electronic device that’s not part of a motor vehicle’s operating equipment. It takes effect in September...
