Omaha,Neb,USA -The Omaha World-Herald/Layover -5 July 2007: -- The American Trucking Association predicts there will be 3.7 million trucks on the nation's highways by 2016, up from 2.76 million in 2006. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration estimates there was a daily demand of 56,000 public spaces in 2005, the most recent figures, but only 28,000 were available... Gerald Fritz of Memphis, Tenn., a third-generation truck driver, had a different tact entirely after reading the story online. He suggested that truckload carriers set up a freight relay system, in which drivers haul their loads into terminals or drop-off points, where other drivers take over. Such systems are used by companies such as FedEx Corp., Overnite Express and Yellow Transportation Inc.... "How come their drivers have few problems with parking?" Fritz asked...
