* Australia - Trucking firms face steep rise in road fees

But the NTC also said it was proposing to lift the net fuel excise paid by heavy vehicle owners by 1.367 cents a litre, an increase of 7 per cent which will apply to all types of trucks

Sydney,New South Wales,Australia -The Sydney Morning Herald, by Mark Davis -July 7, 2007: -- Registration fees for large B-double trucks would nearly double over the next three years under a planned overhaul of government charges designed to ensure the trucking industry meets its share of road costs... The National Transport Commission said yesterday it was proposing to significantly increase charges for the biggest trucks on Australia's roads while cutting annual registration fees for semi-trailers and most rigid trucks... The proposed increases would be passed on in higher consumer prices for goods transported by road, although the commission estimates the impact on grocery prices will be less than half a percentage point...
