Compensation for Delays * New Zealand - Ports of Auckland is considering paying trucking Cos.
The trucking companies say they are losing money because of the delays
Auckland,New Zealand -Radio New Zealand -5 Mar 2007: -- The problem has led to queues of trucks backing up into city streets outside the port area, and unloading times stretching to three hours or more instead of the usual half an hour... The delay is being blamed on a massive increase in container traffic since Danish firm Maersk, the country's biggest shipping company, chose Auckland over Tauranga as its favoured North Island port... Ports of Auckland chief operating officer Jens Madsen said on Monday that compensation would be discussed as part of negotiations under way with the trucking companies...
