* USA - Biofuels Need Gov't Help
Washington,DC,USA -The High Plains Journal (Dodge City, KS) -5 Feb 2007: -- Experts testifying before the Senate Energy Committee agree the U.S. is pretty far away from meeting president Bush's biofuels goals, and the industry will need government help to achieve those goals... A diverse group of more than 30 experts representing industries from ethanol and biodiesel to farming, trucking, refining, pipelines, gasoline and diesel retailers, car manufacturers as well as scientists from both private industry and academia provided testimony to the Senate panel on what's needed to not just fulfill President Bush's goal of reducing oil dependence outlined in last month's State of the Union address, but to do so in a way that does not harm consumers, private companies and the environment... The message was clear: Congress needs to take the leadership by setting industry standards as well as providing tax incentives, research and development funding and loans to address an issue...
* USA - Oregon Showroom for Eco-Conscious Truckers Opens
St. Louis, MO,USA - TreeHugger, by Jeff McIntire-Strasburg -5 Feb 2007: -- While long-haul trucking still has a long ways to go towards becoming a "green" form of transporting freight and materials, developments such as BioWillie biodiesel have attempted to lighten the footprint of the "big rigs." ... This past week, another venture jumped into the marketplace to address trucks' and truckers' environmental impact: non-profit Cascade Sierra Solutions' first "outreach center" for green trucking technologies near Salem, Oregon. CSS director and founder Sharon Banks notes that the center is designed to address a fundamental issue with products that help truckers green their ride (and save money): access... The center is the first of five that are planned: others are slated for Seattle, Portland, Medford, Sacramento and Los Angeles... We hope truckers themselves spread the word nationally -- who better?... (See photo)
