Shortage of truckers * USA - ...It's a concern
Bayport means bigger demand for drivers, and likely improved payHouston,TX,USA -The Houston Chronicle, by BRAD HEM -Feb. 3, 2007: -- The new Bayport container terminal features giant state-of-the-art cranes and the latest automation, but the operation's pulse still depends on trucks to move containers inside the terminal and around the country... And finding drivers for those trucks is a challenge... With the opening of the Bayport container terminal, which was designed to handle more than a million containers a year, more drivers will be needed in the coming years... Statewide there are 5,000 fewer truckers than there is demand, according to the Texas Motor Transportation Association. More containers mean there will even more jobs available...
