* New Zealand - Police may use ice cream trucks to catch drunk drivers
New Zealand -The New Zealand Herald, by Miles Erwin -Dec 3, 2006: -- Drunk drivers trying to sneak past police could be pulled over by an ice cream truck playing Greensleeves in a novel new campaign... Senior Sergeant Nick Dobson of the Central District traffic support unit said he had hired a wide range of vehicles for traffic patrol including campervans, buses, motorbikes and possibly an ice cream truck... * Australia - Greens urge minimum safety standards for trucks
Tasmania,Australia -ABC Online -Nov 30, 2006: -- The Greens have called for the immediate introduction of minimum safety standards for Tasmania's heavy trucks... A new report has found that more than one-third of Tasmania's heavy trucks fail to meet accepted standards because they are too unstable, and this makes them susceptible to rollovers... Greens MHA Kim Booth says one of the main problems is that many trucks are overloaded, especially log trucks, so their weight makes them prone to rollovers in emergency situations or when rounding corners...
