Sluggish pace attributed to dip in overall economy
Dayton,OH,USA -MSNBC -27 Nov 2006: -- Whether they're hauling car parts for automakers or women's dresses for department stores, area trucking companies say lower customer demand has been putting the brakes on their business since late summer... Industry experts say trucking companies all across the country are making fewer trips, carrying lighter loads and idling equipment until busier days return. Local trucking companies have seen their growth rate slow. These trucking firms report they are still growing, but the second half of the year hasn't been as strong as the robust first six months... Dayton Freight Lines is the 25th largest company in the Dayton area and had 2005 revenue of $166 million, according to Dayton Business Journal research. Dayton Freight Lines already has hired about 250 people this year, bringing its workforce across the 11-state region it covers up to 2,150... "Truckers are noticing that there is a tapering in the economy, but most aren't down-and-out and hurt for business," Duff Swain, president of Columbus-based Triencon Group, said. "Most are still making more money now than they did last year."...
