* Canada - Will that be gas or diesel?

If you are a road warrior and work that truck like a rented mule, the diesel option deserves a look. Otherwise, you’re probably better off with a gasser... A switch to diesel from gas is as easy as putting an X on the option sheet when you buy your new truck. The hard part is deciding whether it really makes sense for you to select diesel instead of gas. Diesel makes sense for some scenarios, but for most general purpose pickups, gas remains the sensible choice... In today’s market we have 3 distinct classes of truck; light-duty, which is defined as having less than an 8,600-pound gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). Trucks rated between 8,600 pounds and 22,000 pounds GVWR are considered medium-duty. Anything over 22,000 pounds is heavy-duty. These categories were defined in the late ’60s and early ’70s as we moved into emissions controls and collision standards. Trucks were held to different standards than cars because trucks were for construction work or farm use and the legislators didn’t want to penalize these sectors...

* USA - Trucking firms see slow start to peak season
Chicago,Ill,USA -The Chicago Tribune/Dow Jones Newswires -Nov 5, 2006: -- The peak season for trucking companies this year has been anything but... Truckload and less-than-truckload companies are normally in the midst of hauling products from ports and other sites to distribution centers in preparation for the holiday retail season... But this year has been different. Carriers haven't seen the typical spike in freight that some see beginning to take shape as early as mid-August and extending into November... Swift Transportation Co., Con-Way Inc., Arkansas Best Corp., Saia Inc. and J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. are among the truckload and less-than-truckload carriers that said, during third-quarter earnings releases last month, that peak season is off to a slow start... Truckload carriers use semitrailers for large freight, while less-than-truckload companies deliver smaller freight...
