New York,NY,USA -The Houston Chronicle (Houston,TX)/AP -Nov. 3, 2006: -- Trucking companies these days will do just about anything to hire and retain qualified drivers, even if it means giving away millions of dollars... Swift Transportation Co. Inc. did exactly that in the third quarter when it awarded one of its drivers $1 million for sticking with the company. And Chief Executive Robert Cunningham told an industry conference this week that the truckload carrier plans to do it again in the first quarter of 2007... "Thanks a Million!" awards drivers for logging safe miles. For every 500 miles, they receive a voucher and the top 10 voucher holders eventually get a shot at $1 million. New luxury cars and 9 other cash awards for $10,000 each are also up for grabs in the program...
