* USA's Attorney - Trucking Company Director and Employees Arrested in Fuel Theft Scheme
FL,USA -Lawfuel (press release) (Wellington,NA,New Zealand) -1 Nov 206: -- Task Force officers and agents conducted both physical and electronic surveillance of the North Miami's, Genesis Petroleum, Inc., operation from mid-May through execution of the warrants... In the course of the investigation, dubbed "Operation Rolaids," they observed fuel being delivered into the shipping container storage tank, and then subsequent deliveries of fuel to customers... Investigators were able to secure the assistance of several of the victims of the fuel diversion scheme, who were able to identify losses of fuel as high as 8,000 gallons over the course of multiple Genesis deliveries... From the surveillance and documents provided by the drivers to the customer facilities, investigators identified the employees of Genesis who were involved in skimming the fuel and documented the same individuals fueling their personal and business vehicles from the shipping container storage tanks...

* Canada - Temiskaming Shores trucking company charged
Sudbury,Ontario,Canada -The Northern Ontario Business -2 Nov 2006: -- Five people at a Temiskaming Shores trucking company have been charged with possession of stolen property following a 10-month provincial police investigation... The OPP Temiskaming Crime Unit and OPP Provincial Auto Theft Team's investigation resulted in the recovery of vehicles worth $1.5 million and charges being laid... Last December, the OPP executed a search warrant at MacKewn Transportation Services in Dymond Township... Six vehicles were discovered and further investigation led to 22 other vehicles being recovered at other locations. The vehicles include four transport trucks, 22 trailers, one recreational motor home and a farm tractor...

* USA - Sentencing postponed for figure in Chicago trucking scandal
CHICAGO,Ill,USA -WQAD (Moline,IL) -2 Nov 2006: -- The sentencing of a key figure in the scandal over Chicago's Hired Truck Program has been abruptly postponed... Defense attorneys say former city water department chief Donald Tomczak (TAHM'-zak) was unable to come to court this morning for his sentencing. They say the 70-year-old had an unspecified medical emergency... Tomczak was charged in a federal investigation of the Hired Truck Program, which outsources city hauling work to private companies... He admitted taking payoffs from trucking companies in exchange for hauling work...

* USA - Jury decides side-loading garbage trucks are safe
Lexington,KY,USA -Kentucky.com, by Shawntaye Hopkins -Nov. 01, 2006: -- A jury last week said side-loading garbage trucks aren't unsafe, rejecting a claim made by a Lexington couple whose child was killed by one of the trucks... Justin Robins, 11, was riding a scooter in July 2001 on Chaffey Lane in south Lexington's Hartland neighborhood when the city-owned side-loading truck rolled over him as it turned left... In 2004, the city settled a lawsuit filed by his parents, David and Sandra Robins, for $2 million... Manufacturers of the truck, also named in the suit, went to trial. The parents argued the trucks were not designed for neighborhood streets and their blind spots were dangerous... In Fayette Circuit Court last week, a 12-member jury unanimously voted that the trucks are not unreasonably dangerous to the extent that manufacturers of similar products would decline to put them on the market...
