"Pay as you Go" System - UK - 'Make foreign trucks pay to use our roads'
Preston,England,UK -Lancashire Evening Post -21 Oct 2006: -- Britain should run a "pay as you go" system for foreign lorry drivers to make them contribute to the upkeep of the nation's roads, a Lancashire MP said... Lindsay Hoyle said truckers from abroad should pay for the wear and tear they contribute to Britain's roads, just like British drivers contribute to through road taxes... And he also wants to see spot checks specifically targeting lorries from the Continent to ensure they are roadworthy... Mr Hoyle's motion, which has been signed by Nigel Evans, MP for Ribble Valley, says that around one in seven of the heaviest lorries on UK roads come from overseas and action needs to be taken to make sure they contribute and that they are roadworthy...
