* Canada/USA - Leave truckers in yet another jam

The Canadian trucking industry has not been immune from the fallout, as the U.S. government responded to the tragedy by introducing, among other things, a spate of measures designed to tighten security at land borders – the first line of defence, some have called it... The U.S. government’s desire, its obligation, to try to protect its citizens from terrorism is beyond question. American efforts also impact Canada’s security and our economic well-being... Our customers, the shippers, need to be more engaged and share in the costs of securing their supply chains. The only way to do that is for carriers to charge for the costs of these programs and for the delays they cause... It’s easy to become complacent about these things, but we do so at our own peril...


* Nepal - Border Row Sparks Customs' Closure
Itahari,Nepal -The Himalayan Times (Kathmandu,Nepal) -Oct 7, 2006: -- Accusing Indian border security force SSB of demanding money during the export of stone chips, gravel and soil to India and holding up their trucks along the border for hours when they don't get the money, cargo entrepreneurs of Nepal have caused the closure of the Indo-Nepal customs checkpoint in Haripur-9, Sunsari, since Thursday afternoon... They have also blocked the entry of cargo vehicles bound for Nepal from India. Scores of vehicles have lined up along the border on both sides...
