Report -USA - Indicates rising costs, failing infrastructure and congestion
USA -Transport Intelligence (UK) -7 July 2006: -- The US based Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) has published its ‘State of Logistics Report’ for 2006, and it is filled with interesting statistics on logistics in the American economy... Many of its figures are remarkable. The volume of logistics spending in the US has grown to US$ 1,183 billion, a 15% rise over the year and the biggest jump in over a decade. This represented 9.5% of the countries GDP. This is despite a modest slow-down in the US economy over the period... Almost all of the components of logistics costs have risen, with freight volumes, inventory costs, labour costs and fuel costs all showing significant movement upwards... A further finding of the report is the impact of congestion. It reports widespread road congestion which it estimates costs an extraordinary $72.65 per truck hour...
