City mulls - USA - How to contain containers... ???
Will County,Ill.,USA —Joliet Herald News, by Andrea Hein -3 July 2006: -- The large cargo containers arriving by the hundreds of thousands into the Burlington Northern Santa Fe intermodal facility in Elwood are creating a buzz in Will County... The number of companies on the lookout for local land to temporarily store the massive empty containers until they can be shipped back out is on the rise... Last year the facility logged 454,000 lifts, a BNSF spokesman said. That number could climb to 800,000 this year, local leaders have said... Trucks are needed to move the containers, so the facilities may put more traffic on roads that already are congested. And the heavy traffic can take its toll on the roads themselves... Officials also don't want a repeat in Will County of the unsightly storage yards outside of Chicago that are visible from Interstate 55... As a result, the special committee is studying what types of ordinances or restrictions might be best for local towns to adopt...
