Trial - USA - Shows Tolls Don't Work

UK -TNN -June 2006: -- Seven areas in Britain are due to pilot schemes for what would eventually be tolls of up to £1.34 on all British roads. But, the NAAT say, a trial in the USA has shown that drivers actually travelled more miles than before... The trial in the Seattle area started a year ago and is funded by the Federal government... Five hundred cars have been fitted with a device that is detected using Global Positioning Satellites. Tolls vary according to the time of day and the type of road. Drivers have had money deposited in a special account... Logistical difficulties were experienced in fitting the devices into the cars, and there would be a major problem if all cars had to be fitted with devices. Reception problems were experienced in downtown streets as tall buildings block the signal...
