Chambersburg,PA,USA -Chambersburg Public Opinion, by Jim Hook -2 June 2006: -- Warehousing and trucking have made themselves a big home in Cumberland and Franklin counties... Both counties rank No. 1 and No. 2 in warehouse employment in Pennsylvania. About two-thirds of the nation's population is within an easy two-day drive (1,000 miles) of Shippensburg... Together they represent a billion-dollar industry and comprise nearly 8 percent of the region's economic output. About 10 percent of the 52,000 trucks that travel Interstate 81 have local warehouses as their destination... Kurt Fuellhart and Paul Marr, both associate professors of geography/earth science at Shippensburg University, took a look at warehousing and trucking in the two counties and found a disparity in the pay scales.
