''Jake Brakes'' - USA - On big trucks again causing head aches

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, N.J.,USA -Newsday (Long Island,NY)/AP -Apr 15, 2006: -- The "Jake Brake," an exhaust braking system used in 18-wheelers and other large vehicles, is again creating earsplitting headaches in residential neighborhoods and backlash among residents... "When (truck drivers) apply the brakes, it sounds like the world's coming apart," Bill Dressel, executive director of the New Jersey State League of Municipalities, told... The Jake Brake _ named by its Connecticut-based manufacturer _ cuts the flow of fuel and uses air to change the movement of pistons to slow down the big vehicles. Drivers say it reduces reliance on regular brakes and their pads, which can heat up and deteriorate over time...
