Father Urges - New Zealand - Ban one-man rubbish trucks
Wellington,New Zealand -Stuff.co.nz -11 Apr 2006: -- The father of a three-year-old girl run over and killed by a rubbish truck in Stokes Valley has called for the sole-manned vehicles to be banned... Ruby Gooch-Wood died instantly when she was struck by a nine-tonne Waste Management truck that ran over her head outside her Greenwich Rd home in September... The Wellington Coroners Court was told the dual left and right-steering truck was being operated by Campbell Aitchison, who was using the left-hand side controls... The court was told that if Aitchison had been sitting in the usual right-hand driver's seat there would have been a greater chance that Ruby would be spotted... Mr Wood said the practice of sole rubbish truck drivers should be banned...
