Just an attempt to reduce transportation cost per pound... Commercial driver shortage at about 20,000/year but growing... Average carrier spending for licensed commercial driver to reach experienced-level is $4000/driver... 2005 longhaul driver income diminished due to fuel price increase and shortage of loads. Surcharges?... Fuel surcharge, energy surcharge but there is also a technology surcharge...
