Illegally exceeding - Australia - Trucking firm faces 1000 charges
Brisbane,Queensland, Australia -Brisbane Courier Mail, by Jason Gregory -Mar 11, 2006: -- A Trucking company will be hit with more than 1000 charges relating to drivers endangering lives on Queensland roads by illegally exceeding their maximum hours... Every year in Queensland up to 2000 fatigue-related accidents involving heavy vehicles cost the community about $300 million. In 2005, 37 truck drivers were killed in smashes on the state's roads... A Queensland Transport source says 1016 papers will be served as early as Monday morning after an extensive two-year cross-agency investigation into Brisbane firm Harker Transport... In March 2004, Harker Transport pleaded guilty to 46 charges relating to drivers working longer than the legal 12-hour maximum, and was fined $40,000... Harker Transport was bought by Roadmaster last year. Both companies will be named in the charges... Former Harker Transport manager Stephen Harker is now believed to be living in the US...
