Trucking firms haul goods for manufacturers and retailers... The rules of supply and demand drive the business for this cyclical industry. The stronger the economy, the greater the demand for shipping services... Despite high fuel prices and the ravaging effects of Hurricane Katrina, the economy has stayed resilient. In the third quarter, real gross domestic product grew at a 3.8% annual rate after rising 3.3% in the second quarter. For all of 2005, the economy is expected to grow 3.6%... Upside: As long as the economy is healthy, demand should keep the industry in good shape... And trucking firms are better poised to take advantage of a good economy than they used to be...
