V-6 will debut in crossovers, eventually power one in five Fords
DEARBORN,Mich,USA -The Detroit News, by Bryce G. Hoffman-10 Nov 2005: -- Ford Motor Co. could do little more than watch in recent years as Nissan, Honda and Toyota rolled out cars and crossovers with state-of-the-art V-6 engines that produced both gaudy horsepower numbers and impressive fuel efficiency... The automaker unveiled a new, high-tech V-6 and six-speed automatic transmission that can match the power and fuel efficiency of Japanese rivals... The new 3.5-liter V-6 produces 250 horsepower, 240 pound-feet of torque and features variable valve timing and dual overhead cam technology. "That means more power and better fuel economy," said Barb Samardzich, Ford's vice president of powertrain operations, who noted that the new engine is more environmentally friendly than Ford's existing V-6. It meets the stringent partial zero emissions vehicle, or PZEV, standards without any modification or expensive attachments...
