Plans - Russia - Nissan to Start Car Production by 2007
Moscow,Russia -The Moscow News/Nihon Keizai Shimbun -15 Nov 2005: -- Nissan Motor Co has sent a research team to Russia with a view to starting productions of vehicles there, reported on Tuesday, Nov. 15, quoting Nissan’s chief operating officer... Nissan already has operations in China and Brazil and is building sales networks in Russia and India. The company is also expected to consider production in India, the Nikkei said... The company sold 28,000 vehicles in Russia in 2004, about three times as many as in 2003, and aims to raise sales to 70,000 units by 2007... In recent years, sales of Japanese cars have surged in Russia, accounting for more than 30 percent of all foreign models sold there... Renault SA of France, which owns 44 percent of Nissan, began operating a plant in the suburbs of Moscow this year, producing its low-priced Logan model. Analysts say that if Nissan really goes ahead with its production plans in Russia, it can go about it in two ways: either build a new plant from scratch or unite its efforts with Renault... Nihon Keizai Shimbun wrote that production of Nissan’s Infinity cars may begin in Russia by 2007...
