Cut - USA - Ford to cut 1,500 jobs at former Visteon plants

Automaker bailed out supplier which reports $200 million quarterly loss
Detroit,Mich,USA -The Detroit News -Nov 8, 2005: -- Ford Motor Co. plans to cut about 1,500 factory jobs this quarter at some plants it reacquired last month from struggling automotive supplier Visteon Corp... The buyouts are among the 5,000 that Ford said it planned to make at the former Visteon operations, Ford said in a filing Monday. In May, Ford announced plans to take control of 23 plants and offices from Visteon on Oct. 1. Included in the transfer are plants that employ about 18,000 members of the United Auto Workers union. The buyouts will occur at those plants, Ford said... Ford also will shift two of the former Visteon plants into its North American operations permanently in 2006, the filing said. Ford said previously that the status of the factories, in Sterling Heights and Rawsonville, would depend on whether UAW members adopted new work-rule agreements...
