Inspections II - USA - DMV check stalls refuse trucks
DANBURY,CT,USA -Danbury News Times, by Brian Saxton -7 Oct 2005: -- They were on the lookout for defects such as missing reflectors, loose taillights or anything else they considered a threat to driving safety... By the time they had finished, inspectors from the state Department of Motor Vehicles had found enough violations in the fleet to ground more than a dozen trucks run by a firm owned by Danbury businessman James Galante... On Wednesday, Galante spokesman David Dunleavy said that after inspecting Superior Waste's trucks, the DMV grounded 13 of the company's 18 vehicles... By Thursday afternoon, the DMV had returned and approved the use of most of the trucks. All but three are back on the road... Dunleavy said the infractions included things like an under-inflated tire, direction lights that flashed on and off too quickly, and a fire extinguisher that was not properly secured. One vehicle lacked the company's name and a Department of Transportation operating number... DMV spokesman Bill Seymour said although vehicles are investigated at random throughout the year, the latest round of inspections of interstate companies is part of an increased crackdown on safety violations...
