Study - USA - Overweight trucks cause $130 million a year in damage
RALEIGH, Wilmington,N.C.,USA -WWAY NewsChannel 3 -Oct 08, 2005: -- Overweight trucks costs North Carolina taxpayers almost $ 130 million dollars a year in damage to state roadways. That's according to a Department of Transportation study... The study prepared by Judith Corley-Lay of D-O-T's Pavement Management Unit is the department's first attempt to see how much trucks that exceed the 80-thousand-pound limit cost in additional road maintenance. It relied on data gathered by the D-O-T for federal pavement studies... State Transportation Secretary Lyndo Tippett said he would work with lawmakers to eliminate some exemptions that allow overweight trucks to legally travel the roads...
