Webster -7 Oct 2005: -- Ford Motor announced yesterday that it is forming an alliance with Boeing and Northwestern University that will mine a budding field of science in ways that could unleash countless advancements in transportation... But unlocking the commercial applications of nanotechnology on a broader scale could make automobiles and planes, lighter, stronger, run more efficiently and even have more lustrous paint jobs. It could also find ways to boost power in hybrid- vehicle batteries or aid in hydrogen-powered vehicle development... Ford and its partners will work on collective research projects, and Stevens envisions as many as 20 scientists dedicated to nanotechnology at Ford. That is about double what Ford has now, Wu said... As Ford works to make innovation central to its business strategy, Stevens said nanotechnology "will be an area of long-term research at Ford"...
