Higher gas prices may push people to purchase more fuel-efficient cars
NEW YORK,NY,USA -Forbes, by Jerry Flint - Sept,2005 :-( What we have here is what they call a defining moment. The automobile business has changed forever. Even if you are financially comfortable, paying $47 for a half-tank of gasoline does not feel good. The pain is even greater for those who own big pickups and sport utility vehicles that have fuel mileage in the low teens... We do not know how bad it will get next year. Gasoline prices will go down eventually, but a return to $1.50-per-gallon gasoline may be as unlikely as seeing tailfins reappear on new cars. In the future, the "normal" price might be in the $2.50-per-gallon range, as we were paying this past summer before Hurricane Katrina...
