Insurance -USA - Loophole raises alarm

LINSEY -27 Sept 2005: -- Richard Blumenthal decried what he termed a loophole in state law, relieving trucking companies and their insurance agencies of the responsibility to notify the state of policy lapses or cancellations... An uninsured truck operated by American Crushing & Towing killed four in a July 29 multi-car crash at Avon Mountain. The truck was nearly 20,000 pounds overweight and being driven with a broken tag axle, West Hartford Police said. The state attorney general said in a letter to the Department of Motor Vehicles that the agency should immediately demand proof of insurance from all Connecticut trucking companies. "Trucking companies without the proper insurance are accidents waiting to happen -- at a huge cost to all, ... The stark fact is that companies that lack insurance are also likely to be ignoring maintenance and safety problems on their trucks." ...
