Prices - USA - Fed up with fuel
Gas prices likely to affect drivers' habits, wallets
FONTANA,San Bernardino,CA,USA -San Bernardino Sun, by Joe Florkowski -August 12, 2005: -- For some truck companies, such as Chino-based, Jack Jones Trucking, the rising fuel prices are passed along to customers through surcharges, said president Valerie Liese.
"I have to," Liese said. "Everyone is in the same boat."... For many in the trucking industry, like Liese, they can pass their costs along by adopting surcharges... Some large trucking companies, though, are beginning to employ independent owners and operators of trucks to cut down on costs said... By hiring those independent owners and operators, those trucking companies cut down on workers' compensation and fuel costs for their business, Liese said... All of these costs borne by the trucking industry will eventually trickle down to the consuming public, she said... "It's just going to be the consumer who pays in the long run. It's ridiculous"...
