Auto boom - USA - Wall Street unimpressed by July
SAN FRANCISCO,CAL,USA -MarketWatch, by August Cole -Aug. 3, 2005: -- If a month of near-record auto sales can't get Wall Street excited about the industry's prospects, what can?... Not much at all, it seems, if the latest reaction to July's U.S. sales figures is any measure... Generous discounts on 2005 models, which must make room for '06s already on the way, lured buyers into making the month the strongest since the first round of aggressive discounts followed the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks... Inventories have certainly been thinned with cars flying off the lot at such a torrid pace. June saw booming sales, as well, as employee-level pricing for the general public kicked buying into high gear... The sustainability of this tempo is, of course, at issue... |
