Accidents - Australia - Speed link to rollovers

Hobart,Tasmania,Australia -The Advocate on line, by DEBORAH COLE -Aug 20, 2005: -- HALF the heavy truck rollovers in Tasmania are caused by excessive speed through curves, a State Government safety report has found... Of the 162 heavy truck accidents investigated, 60 were rollovers. Of those, 43 were semi-trailers, 14 were truck-and-dog trailer combinations and three were B-doubles... Transport Engineering Research New Zealand was commissioned last March to do the investigation amid public debate about truck safety and crashes... The report found 50p.c. of the 60 rollovers were caused by excess speed through curves, notably by log, woodchip and stock trucks. It recommended the rollover stability of the poorest performing heavy vehicles be increased...
