Chennai,India -Trucks India/Linkedin -24 March 2013: -- The Indian commercial vehicle (CV) market, which is currently in its slowest phase of growth, will see at least another two or three quarters of sluggish sales before a revival kicks in, said executives at CV makers... Vehicle sales have dropped in the face of slowing economic growth and high interest rates and fuel prices that forced potential buyers to delay purchases... The rise in the cost of materials and fuel, along with falling freight rates, have contributed to the drop in demand for trucks. This slowdown in business has prompted leading truck makers to increase discounts from 7% to as much as 20% in the last five months...
* India - Trucks get tech to beat toll jam

New Delhi,India -The Telegraph -April 14, 2013: -- The central roads and transport ministry is trying to equip all trucks in the country with an electronic tag for toll payment within two years. Over 75 lakh trucks may get the tag that will facilitate quick exit through toll gates. The government had earlier constituted a committee under Nandan Nilekani in 2010, whose mandate was to examine all technologies available for electronic toll collection (ETC) and recommend the most suitable one for local conditions. The objective of ETC, according to the committee, was to ease delays and traffic congestion at collection points by facilitating automatic vehicle identification. According to the Indian Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT), the e-tag system can be fully implemented in the next two years...
