PENALTIES * UK - MA Bullock and Sons has O-licence revoked

VOSA investigation into tachograph chart offences

Herefordshire,W.Midland,UK -Road Transport, by Roger Brown -14 March 2011: -- Haulier MA Bullock and Sons has had its O-licence revoked following a VOSA investigation into tachograph chart offences and use of an unspecified site... In a written decision, following a public inquiry in January, West Midland Deputy Traffic Comissioner (DTC) Miles Dorrington revoked the O-licence of the Kington-based business with effect from 30 April and said boss Martin Bullock had lost his repute... VOSA traffic examiner Annemarie Morgan had conducted an investigation into the business, authorised for one vehicle and one trailer, for the inquiry... Her report included details about a case at Hereford Magistrates Court, in November 2010, at which Bullock had been convicted of 10 offences, including four offences of knowingly making a false tachograph chart record... TRUCKING PENALTIES * UK - 'Ghost drivers' firm loses O-licence

"Obstruction and prevarication on a grand scale"

Dumfries,Dumfries & Galloway,UK -Road Transport, by Roger Brown -21 August 2010: -- The boss of collapsed haulier Cameron Young Transport has been disqualified indefinitely after his firm was found to have wound back tachograph clocks, pulled fuses and used "ghost drivers" to falsify its records... In a written decision, following a public inquiry held in June in Edinburgh, Scottish Deputy Traffic Commissioner (DTC), Richard McFarlane said, Cameron Young, sole director of the Dumfries-based company, which went into liquidation in September 2009, should also lose his HGV licence and that the firm's O-licence be revoked... A VOSA investigation into the haulier - at that time authorised for 15 vehicles - found 114 false records made by drivers between December 2008 and January 2009, 14 drivers' hours and 45 record offences committed during the period, as well as 43 instances of aiding and abetting the commission of some of these offences. In total, 124,641km were unaccounted for... Drivers at the company had employed various means to disguise their true duties and driving times, including using digital drivers' cards that had been issued in the name of other drivers... VOSA officers discovered that drivers' records had been falsified through so-called "fuse-pulling", winding back tachograph clocks and interfering with analogue and digital tachograph recording equipment... PENALTIES * USA - St. Joseph trucking firm fined

A St. Joseph trucking company received fines after violations of the federal motor carrier regulations, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration

St. Joseph,MN,USA -The St. Cloud Times (St. Cloud,MN) -March 11. 2008: -- ... JDR Express received civil penalties of $6,180, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said in a statement this morning... An investigation in February revealed three violations. The company used a driver not medically examined or certified in the previous 24 months, requiring or allowing a driver to drive after being on duty for more than 70 hours in eight consecutive days and using a vehicle that had not received periodic inspections, according to the agency...

Penalizations * Australia - 18 truckies reported in heavy vehicle blitz

More than 850 trucks were inspected during a South Australian operation targetting heavy vehicles last week

Melbourne,Australia -ABC Online -Oct 7, 2007: -- ... It was organised by police and the Transport Department and resulted in 48 offences being detected... There were 27 fines issued, and 18 drivers were reported for heavy vehicle offences... One truck was found with a device enabling its number plate to be concealed from speed cameras... * USA - Cumberland trucking firm fined $80,000 on federal hazardous waste charges

Providence,RI,USA -The Providence Business News -Jun 13, 2007: -- Berkeley Transportation Co. yesterday was fined $80,000 in federal court for illegally shipping hazardous waste from a property in East Greenwich to a trucking depot in Warwick in 2004, U.S. Attorney Robert Clark Corrente announced... The Cumberland-based company also paid $35,000 in restitution to the R.I. Department of Emergency Management’s Environmental Response Fund. Both penalties were part of a plea agreement the trucking company entered into in December... The DEM began an investigation after receiving a report that trailers containing leaking drums had been abandoned at the depot, prosecutors said... “The proper management, transportation and disposal of hazardous waste and damaged freight by the trucking industry is critical to the safety of our citizens and the environment,” said Michael E. Hubbard, special agent in charge of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Criminal Investigation Division, which investigated the case along with the DEM’s Office of Criminal Investigation...
