AMAZON's news * France: METAL CABINETS IN SHOPPINGS

* Meurthe-et-Moselle - Amazon expands instructions network in France

--- The American relies mainly on shopping centers to accommodate its Amazon Lockers. 500 of these metal cabinets should be in place in France, very quickly... An all yellow cabinet, with its logo at the bottom. That's what Amazon has posed early May 2016 in the shopping arcade of the hypermarket Auchan in Mont-Saint-Martin, near Longwy, to allow customers to pick up their orders on its website, or return... This metal furniture, consisting of automated instructions with a screen to type or scan the unique code of withdrawal, the e-commerce giant will install 64 by the end of June on the promenades of the real estate of the Auchan Group in France according to our sources... Noyelles Godault and Arras in the Pas-de-Calais, are already equipped. Currently, parcels delivered in these instructions must not weigh more than 4.5 kg or exceed a specific size (42 cm x 35 cm x 32 cm), otherwise the user must select another delivery method... The command can be removed up to 3 business days after receiving an SMS or an email. In addition, the packet is returned to Amazon and the customer paid...

* NAFTA Surface Trade Continues Year-to-Year Gains

Washington,DC,USA -TruckingInfo -11 Nov 2011:  --  Trade using surface transportation between the United States and its North American neighbors, Canada and Mexico, was 13.8 percent higher in September 2011 than in September 2010, totaling $77.7 billion...  The Bureau of Transportation Statistics of the U.S. Department of Transportation has reported double-digit year-over-year gains every month of 2011 compared to 2010, and many months of successive year-over-year gains going back two or more years...  Surface transportation includes freight movements by truck, rail, pipeline, mail, Foreign Trade Zones, and other. In September, 85.6 percent of U.S. trade by value with Canada and Mexico moved via land, 9.8 percent moved by vessel, and 4.5 percent moved by air...  U.S.-Canada and U.S.-Mexico surface transportation trade both increased compared to September 2010 with U.S.-Canada reaching $46.1 billion, a 14.7 percent increase, and U.S.-Mexico reaching $31.6 billion, a 12.5 percent increase...

Deregulation spurs development of pan-continental rail networks

London,UK -The Journal of Commerce Online (USA), by Bruce Barnard -May 3, 2010: -- UK transport company FirstGroup has put its rail freight unit up for sale, attracting several British and European bidders, according to the Financial Times... The planned sale of GB Railfreight is part of the ongoing consolidation of Europe's rail freight industry that has seen companies sold at high valuations... Among the reported bidders are SNCF, France's state-owned railway, Eurotunnel, the operator of the cross-Channel tunnel between the UK and France, and Freightliner, the UK's second largest rail freight company... FirstGroup has been seeking to reduce its debt since its $3.6 billion acquisition of Laidlaw International, the owner of the Greyhound bus company in the United States, in 2007... TRANSPORT NEWS * World Trade Volume Falls 11.3 Percent

Steepest decline on record in first quarter

The Netherlands -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Alan Field -May 20, 2009: -- World trade volume during the first quarter of 2009 fell 11.3 percent below the fourth quarter of 2008, according to an independent research institute... CPB Netherlands Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis said the decline amounted to an annualized drop of 38 percent, the steepest fall since the institute began to track data in 1991... Leading the downturn was Japan, whose imports dropped by 16.6 percent, and exports by 28.2 percent during the quarter... CPB said global trade volume during the first quarter of this year was 15 percent lower than during the same quarter last year. Over the 12 months ending March 31, global trade volume was only 2.9 percent lower than a year earlier, CPB said... TRANSPORT NEWS * USA - LA Boxes Decline 6 Percent in '08

Los Angeles,CAL,USA -The Journal of Commerce/Traffic World, by Bill Mongelluzzo -15 Jan 2009: -- The Port of Los Angeles closed out its weakest year in more than a decade with total container volume in December dropping 15.2 percent from the same month a year ago... For the year, container volume at the largest U.S. port declined 6 percent... The LA-Long Beach port complex the past two years has also experienced a diversion of cargo to other ports due to uncertainties over the ports' clean-truck programs and proposed cargo fees...

* S. Korea - Kumho-Asiana Wins Auction For Bust Korea Express

Hong Kong,China -Forbes (New York,NY,USA), by Shu-Ching Jean Chen -17 Jan 2008: -- Korea Express, the largest logistics company in South Korea, looks set to be picked up by a consortium led by Kumho-Asiana Group, giving one of the country’s biggest conglomerates a critical platform to become a top global logistics player... Court officials overseeing the auction process of Korea Express told reporters on Thursday that Kumho-Asiana, through its affiliates Asiana Airlines, the country’s second-largest airliner, and Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., was selected as the preferred bidder to buy a controlling stake in Korea Express for a reported value of about $2 billion. ..
