TRUCKING COSTS * USA - Tires One of Top Two Fleet Operational Expenses

Some managers may be too cautious and re-tire sooner than necessary. Scrapped tires should be analyzed to adjust replacement point... Many major fleets measure truck-operating costs in mills/mile (0.1 cent). Preventive maintenance includes tire pressure checks and rotations... "Every tire that comes out of service should be examined to determine why it was removed from service. This analysis could point to application issues, pressure issues, vehicle alignment issues and many others, " says Doug Jones, customer engineering support manager, Michelin Americas Truck Tires...

The new Doran 360HD Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides the driver "at- a-glance" status updates with a new patent-pending Green Means Good indicator

This next-generation system monitors up to 36 tires for truck, tractor and trailer applications with wireless tire pressure sensors that are screwed on to the valve stems and transmit a signal to a monitor in the cab... The driver is alerted through multiple alarm types (audible, location, pressure and warning symbol) and a new "Fast Leak" alarm... The system, which works with traditional dual wheel configuration or wide base single configuration, provides an estimated payback of less than nine months per truck (based on driving 100,000 miles annually)...

Winter & Tires * USA - Tips for Safety Management

Tire pressure drops when ambient air temperature does

USA -Light & Medium Truck -18 October 2007: -- Cold weather state drivers, fleet managers should watch tire air pressure in winter. You should replace worn tires for winter to get increased bite in snow, slush. And tires w/ remaining wear can be stored, reinstalled in summer...
IMPORTANT:
* Tires shouldn't be checked in extreme cold in snow in case valves freeze, leak
* Valves frozen open should be worked w/ pressure gauge to dislodge ice
