UPS's NATURAL GAS TRUCKS * USA: Alternative fuels for

* Georgia - UPS to invest another $90m in natural gas fleet and their infrastructure 
--- The Atlanta-based parcel giant will build an additional six compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations, and add 390 new CNG tractors and terminal trucks, along with 50 liquefied natural gas (LNG) vehicles to its alternative fuel fleet... UPS Inc. is investing another $90 million in vehicles that run on natural gas and the infrastructure to support them, the company said in a statement... The six new CNG stations will be built in Ontario, Calif.; Orlando, Fla.; Salina, Kan.; Louisville, Ky.; Greensboro, N.C; and Vancouver, B.C. ... UPS also purchased 50 additional LNG vehicles that were deployed in Indianapolis; Chicago; Earth City, Mo.; and Nashville, Tenn., where UPS has existing LNG stations...

TRUCK SALES * USA: Natural gas vehicles up 48%

* Iowa - Natural-Gas truck sales recover from slow start in 2016

--- Retail sales of Class 8 natural gas trucks in the U.S. and Canada improved in May, after getting off to a slow start earlier in the year, according to a report published by ACT Research... The majority of natural-gas vehicle sales were attributed to repeat sales as well as purchases made by transit bus and refuse truck operators, according to ACT... The lower price of diesel fuel has stunted the return on investment fleets might have for gained by adopting the alternative fuel, making the turn toward natural gas a less lucrative prospect for fleets... Sales were up 48% over the previous month. But they are down 21% over the past 12 months and 24% year-to-date compared to 2015...

* Ohio - AFV taking long view during trying times

-- Just two years ago, Twinsburg-based AFV Natural Gas Fuel Systems was a brand new company in a burgeoning industry... It posted a profit in its first year, as it and the nation rushed to convert trucks and other vehicles from gasoline and diesel fuel to cheaper natural gas... Today, with gasoline and diesel fuel prices down sharply from their previous highs, the luster is gone from that industry, at least temporarily... But AFV remains — and says that like many of the fleet operators that rely on its fuel systems to make their trucks go, it’s in business for the long haul...

* Alberta - Here’s how Natural Gas will bring on the demise of diesel. NG has long been touted as a natural replacement for diesel

... The case for switching to LNG is a simple one: It costs less than diesel to use, and it emits fewer gases in the process. When oil prices were higher, the savings that LNG offered over diesel approached 50 per cent, and while that spread has narrowed lately it’s still wide enough to encourage switching... In the long-haul trucking business, where enormous volumes of fuel are consumed in order to produce generally thin operating margins, those savings could make a big difference to a company’s bottom line...

-- Less than a year after its joint venture with Agility Fuel Systems was announced, Hexagon Lincoln said it has produced its largest capacity and lightest weight vehicle tank to date, at its Lincoln plant, for heavy-duty trucks... The new 27-inch diameter tank is featured in Agility's state-of-the-art 160 DGE Behind-the-Cab compressed natural gas system introduced at the Natural Gas Vehicle Conference and Expo in November 2014... Hexagon Lincoln said it has received orders valued at approximately $7 million for the new tank and has begun delivery for fuel system orders for several Class 8 truck fleets... Agility Fuel Systems of Santa Ana, California, which produces fuel storage and delivery systems for heavy-duty trucks, buses and specialty vehicles, is Hexagon Lincoln's largest customer... * California - Ryder training truck technicians on Natural Gas Technologies

-- Ryder System Inc., said Wednesday it has launched a new online natural gas vehicle maintenance training program in North American that will see more than 6,000 of its maintenance and service employees trained on the new technology. The program will provide the company’s technician workforce across Ryder’s 800 maintenance facilities with knowledge of all natural gas vehicle platforms and configurations. This program supplements existing customized natural gas vehicle training completed by employees who are already fueling and performing maintenance on natural gas vehicles operating in customers’ fleets...
