‘Chevy Shake’ * USA

* Michigan - Mysterious, unfixable vibrations affecting GM pickup trucks

(Video by Mike Groesbeck - Sep 29, 2015: Many of the new 2014-2015 Silverado and Sierra trucks were built with faulty parts, which cause multiple issues, including vibrations)

-- GM engineers can’t seem to pinpoint the cause of a mysterious recurring issue in vehicles riding on GM’s K2XX platform, which includes its full-size trucks and SUVs, a problem that was referred to by one dealer as “The Chevy Shake” ...  Because GM can’t isolate the cause of the problem, a permanent fix has also been elusive... In total, there are 301 complaints on the NHTSA database concerning 2014 – 2015 Chevy Silverados and GMC Sierras, 31 of which are about the vibration, which equates to about 10 percent. There are no complaints regarding the 2016 model year trucks yet... Unless it is deemed a safety issue, GM is not obligated to recall the trucks. And the detailed information bulletin shows that the brand is working to correct the problem... But until the root cause of "the Chevy shake" can be pinpointed, owners of these pickup trucks will have to continue driving their vibrating pickups and deal with seemingly endless visits to the shop...

TRUCKER COMPLAINTS * USA: A whistleblower with OSHA

* New York - Trucking company ordered to pay up after illegally terminating driver

-- The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has ordered a New York trucking company to pay a fired employee more than $45,000 in lost wages, damages and fees after finding he was illegally terminated for notifying regulators of a workplace safety violation... Shortly after starting work with Mr. Brindi in 2011, the driver — who was not identified per Department of Labor policy for employee whistleblowers — notified the company of defective equipment on his truck, including ineffective brakes, steering issues, non-functioning turn signals, leaks and a cracked windshield. He requested these conditions be repaired, which the company refused to do, according to the release... In February 2012, the driver contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, which inspected the truck and found 16 violations. The truck was pulled from service until repairs were made, and the driver was summarily discharged after notifying Mr. Brindi... The worker filed a whistleblower complaint with OSHA, which ordered Mr. Brindi to pay the driver $32,642 in lost wages, $10,000 in punitive damages and $3,060.02 in attorney’s fees and to expunge the driver’s employment records... A company spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment...

OSHA A CAPTURED AGENCY?... * USA: ... by Trucking Cos. & Airlines... ?

*  California - Has Occupational Safety and Health Administration become a captured agency by the companies it is supposed to regulate?

(You Tube Video, by laborvideo - Nov 1, 2015)

-- The fired Federal OSHA investigator and lawyer Darrell Whitman looks at how the agency has failed to stand up to the biggest companies in the airline and trucking industry. He also talks about how the industry controls the agency so it will not hold them accountable to OSHA and health and safety regulations. This has been combined with the affects of privatization, deregulation and outsourcing of Federal jobs by privateers... He looks at FedEx, Lockheed and other companies that are flagrantly violating the health and safety rights of workers and also threatening the health and safety of the public. Too, violated health and safety rules along with retaliation against whistleblowers and gotten away with it by the failure of OSHA to enforce the rules protecting health and safety whistleblowers. This threatens these whistleblowers and the public who is being put in deadly danger... This interview was done in February 2015. On May 5, 2015 Whitman was fired by the Agency management and he and the whistleblowers he was trying to defend after receiving merit recommendations are still fighting for justice... Darrell Whitman accuses the FedEx corporation of systemic corruption and flagrant violations of health and safety regulations along with retaliation against OSHA whistleblowers. According to Whitman they operate above the law and the OSHA management allow them to violate the health and safety retaliation protection laws...
