(Photo: The Qoros GQ3)
Beijing,China -China Car Times, by Ash -Aug 19, 2013: -- Qoros has failed an environmental test according to Chinese automotive media reports from this morning... The joint venture between Chery and Israeli Corp gave birth to the Qoros brand with the company setting up its production center in Changshu, around 100km from Shanghai with production reaching 150,000 units in the first phase and increasing to 350,000 units in the second phase. Although small scale production has been underway for some time whilst Qoros evaluates quality levels but Changshu’s Environmental Bureau has effectively pulled the plug on mass production pending further inquiries into the environmental effects of the factory on the local environment...  According to anonymous sources quoted by auto.163.com, the factory has not been approved by the environmental bureau and can only carry out limited production until the company reaches or surpasses certain criteria...

* Green cars gaining speed in China

Shanghai,SH,China -China Car Times, by Ash -Aug 26, 2013: -- In the first part of the year 5889 new energy vehicles made it to Chinese roads with around 10,000 new energy vehicles being produced each year... The Chinese government originally planned to have 500,000 New Energy Vehicles on the road by 2015, a goal which is obviously far away and blame being laid at the feet of the government by industry bodies and consumers for continually delaying subsidy polices for private buyers... China’s EV industry is currently growing at a rapid rate but largely relies on supplying parts to overseas markets where the adoption rate for EV’s is much higher than China’s own domestic market...  Later this year the central government is expected to announce its much delayed subsidy policy for vehicles which should kickstart the market, the policy framework has been much talked about by Chinese media and so far seems to be based on an expanded network of the original test pilot cities in China...

* CAR BRANDS in China & "A ... 'Snowden' car traveling 500km on a single charge" ... ???

* Hainan - Haima Auto has registered the name ‘Snowden‘ -in Chinese: Si Nuo Deng - for its new electric car

(Photo)
Hainan,China -China Car Times, by Ash -Aug 23, 2013: -- Initially the Snowden trademark was registered by Beijing’s Hong Yuan Lan Xiang (HYLX) which will eventually create EV technologies. However it seems that Hainan based Haima Auto have already signed a contract with the company and plan to use the name in their forthcoming EV model... Hong Yuan Lan Xiang’s CEO Mr. Zhu He Feng, registered the name on August 15th for use within the automotive industry on technology and full passenger cars... Zhu He Feng: "The ‘Snowden Electric Car Tour’ took place on Beijing’s 5th ring road and aimed to raise awareness of green issues, we went down Chang’an Avenue (in central Beijing) where we stopped by the Police and told to remove all of the Snowden imagery. We were really disappointed as there is currently no ministry or public office that is willing to prove that we have created a car capable of traveling 500km on a single charge" ...

* Shanghai - Brands in China: Tesla gets Shanghai’ed prior to launch

(The Teslamotors.cn web page that Zhan Bao Sheng registered ahead of time)
Shanghai,SH,China -China Car Times -Aug 14, 2013: -- Like many international companies entering into China, Tesla has failed to protect its branding and logo IP prior to its launch... Chinese automotive media are reporting heavily on the fact that the Chinese name that spells out Tesla (Te Si La) has already been registered as early as 2006 and approved in 2009... The entrepreneurial soul behind the Tesla name grab has already been outed by the Chinese media, Mr. Zhan Bao Sheng, has apparently started his own Tesla long before the real Tesla’s Musk got in on the action, except Mr. Zhan was largely attaching the Tesla logo to golf carts rather than actual electric sports sedans... What does this mean for Tesla in China? It means that without the actual rights to the Te Si La name they cannot open their brand new store in Beijing. So what’s the alternative? They could go down the route of alternative names to avoid any clashes. Land Rover changed their name from ?? (Lu Hu) meaning ‘Continent Tiger’ to ?? meaning ‘Road Tiger’ as Geely had snapped up the former ahead of JLR’s official launch in China... The trademark case is still being disputed by the authorities despite Elon Musk reportedly offering Mr. Zhan more than 300,000USD for the name...

CARMAKERS NEWS * China: Cities restrict vehicle purchases

* China - Plans to further restrict car purchases

Beijing,China -Associated Press/The Detroit News, by Louise Watt -July 11, 2013: -- China plans to increase the number of cities that restrict vehicle purchases in a bid to fight pollution and traffic congestion, state media reported Thursday... With more than 13 million cars sold in China last year, motor vehicles and their emissions have emerged as the chief culprit for the air pollution in large cities... Four cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, already curb the purchase of vehicles for private use, through lotteries and auctions of a limited number of license plates... Shi Jianhua, the deputy secretary general of the government-backed China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, was quoted Thursday as saying that eight more cities are likely to announce similar policies. The eight include the port city Tianjin, near Beijing, the metropolis Chongqing in the southwest and industrial powerhouse Shenzhen, not far from Hong Kong... Such restrictions might cut vehicle sales by 400,000 units, or 2 percent of total domestic sales, and have a “certain impact” on the country’s economic growth, the China Daily newspaper quoted... The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, which consults with local governments and makes recommendations on vehicle policies, declined to offer details when called...
