* North Carolina - Trucking company to lay off 115 workers in Gastonia
--- Daimler Trucks North America said this week that it plans to lay off 115 workers next Friday at its components and logistics facility in Gastonia... Workers will have first rights to be called back when production returns to a higher build rate, Giroux said. The workforce reduction is in addition to 180 workers cut earlier this summer at the Gastonia facility... Over the years, Daimler has repeatedly expanded and contracted its workforce along with market conditions. Earlier this year, for example, Daimer said it was cutting 1,200 jobs from its Mount Holly and Cleveland plants... A spokesperson for Freightliner’s parent company, Daimler Trucks North America, said fewer truck orders is to blame for the temporary layoffs...
